Kim Neeson testifies before Mr. Justice Ron Thomas
On Wednesday, June 14th, 2006 Kim Neeson testified in the Superior Court of Ontario at a special hearing called by Mr. Justice Ron Thomas into the manner in which court evidence was recorded and transcripts were produced (and in some instances lost) at the Brampton Court House. Justice Thomas was presiding over the criminal case of Regina v. Vernon Khan and was concerned about the delivery of court reporting services by the Ontario Ministry of the Attorney General and the problems inherent with the mere tape recording of proceedings – erased audiotapes, incorrectly transcribed audiotapes and the failure of audiotapes generally.
Ms. Neeson was asked to provide an historical background of the evolution of court reporting through the last 30 years in the courts, and then to compare the delivery of court reporting services in the private sector to that employed by the Province in Brampton – possibly the Province’s busiest court building. Ms. Neeson described the state of the art methods employed at Neeson & Associates to provide timely and accurate transcripts and the safeguards it uses to avoid loss of testimony.
